Most of those cases were because of severe mental and emotional problems. Post-partum depression, schizophrenia, paranoia etc. The five children you’re talking about? Pretty sure you’re talking about Andrea Yates. She was declared clinically insane due to several long bouts of post-partum depression as well as several bouts of a long list of other psychotic diseases, both of which she had been battling for months…years. Not that this is an “excuse” for what she did because drowning your children in the bath tub one by one is a horrendous crime. But she didn’t do it with the intention of harming them…she thought she was saving them from evil on earth. That’s just how insane she was. Some kids are killed because of accidents due to moronic decisions such as drinking alcohol and then co-sleeping. Rolling over on your infant or toddler and smothering them. Again, this is no excuse. You have to take into consideration that not all mothers love their children. I think it might be a number of factors that would drive a mother to destroy her child’s life. I think they might feel overwhelmed, frustrated, and may have underlining mental health issues. I think the most famous case of mother killings was Andrea Yates. She killed all 6 of her kids one after the other by drowning them in the bathtub. The eldest walked in, and saw her and tried to get away. She caught him and he was drowned as well. Its a horrible story, and it should have never happened.Who can honestly say what drives people to do such awful things.
