Benito Mussolini, or “IL Dulce”, as he was called by those who followed him, really had very little influence on the world as a whole. His sphere of influence was in his country of Italy during World War II. His major accomplishment (if you can call it that), was to assure that all the trains in Italy ran on time. Basically, he was a tyrant and a despot, who because of his weaknesses teamed up with Adolph Hitler, who really became his mentor, in a very sick and distorted way. He was greatly loved by the Italian people, until he began following Hitler, and therefore, helped drive Italy into the ground. Once the allied forces invaded Sicily and marched northward into mainland Italy, Mussolini’s fate was sealed. The Italian people began to loathe him for the position that he put them in, and therefore, prior to the end of the war, the Italian masses killed him and his entire family, by hanging them in the public square.
