Pinatubo put a large amount of scatterers (sulphuric acid) into the stratosphere so sunlight striking the stratosphere was scattered making skies bright even when there was not an eclipse. The stratosphere is relatively clear now, the sky is blue even close to the sun. However in the tropics huge thunderstorms can dump moisture into the stratosphere also scattering light and making for bright skies. So we’ll just have to see. My scientific prediction is for a high likelihood of scatterers in the lower tropical stratosphere leading to a not-dark sky background.
