In addition to the other comments all Koreans are still living in a war zone. They declared a cease fire but I don’t believe the war is technically over. South Korea has been home to thousands of US troops for the decades since then so they had to live with a foriegn military presence albiet one that is safegaurding thier nations borders. In regards to Vietnam one should consider that they had repeatedly been threatened by neighbors and foriegn powers for centuries. The Chinese, Japanese, French and United States had all attempted to impose thier will over the country. The French colonized the country in the 1800’s. The Japanese “liberated” Vietnam during their expansion during World War II. It was furing this period that Ho Chi Minh started calling for independence from foriegn powers. With the end of World War II the French retained control of Vietnam. The communist Viet Minh attempted to gain independence. The French and Viet Minh had a war. The French fared poorly and their colony
