Type Ib diamonds (less than 0.1% of all natural diamonds) contain nitrogen as single atoms within the diamond structure. These nitrogen atoms absorb light in the blue end of the spectrum giving rise to an intense yellow (true Canary diamonds), brown and greenish-yellow colours.
