What ever happened to “The Wonderful World of Disney,” which aired on ABC?

The most recent incarnation of the anthology, which has made its way around the networks over the years, ended its weekly ABC run in 2003, though it would have brief revivals in 2005-’06, 2007 and 2008. It was logical that ABC would become the home for it, after the network was purchased by the Walt Disney Co.; then-Disney chief Michael Eisner served as the program’s host, as Walt Disney himself had years earlier. That brought the concept full circle, since it started on ABC in the mid-1950s under the title “Disneyland.” Renamed “Walt Disney Presents” later in that run, the franchise moved to NBC in the early 1960s and was re-titled “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color.” At the end of that decade, with broadcasting in color much more common, the show was rechristened “The Wonderful World of Disney” and stayed on NBC until 1981.
