The Missouri statute that provides for licensing and regulation of psychologists, professional counselors, and clinical social workers defines clinical social work to include the application of psychotherapy and counseling methods and techniques to persons, families and groups in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and amelioration of mental and emotional conditions.
