What exactly does that mean in mogul skiing?
Those are really the most important ingredients of mogul skiing. You have to ski very fast in the very varied terrain of the moguls. Also, jumping and going big, you have to be fearless enough to go off a jump and land in a field of moguls and keep skiing at top speed. If going big is such an important ingredient, why isn’t mogul skiing in the X Games? I’m not sure. There are certain aspects of mogul skiing represented at the X Games, like the “bumps and jumps” events. But the funny thing is, a lot of the top free-ride skiers right now are former mogul skiers. There is definitely a crossover, but mogul skiing hasn’t made its way over (to the X Games) yet. I think because it’s a (sanctioned) event on the World Cup tour and in the Olympics, maybe they want to keep them separate. Would you prefer that sort of X Games atmosphere to the more staid, traditional Olympics? At times, yeah. It’s definitely a different atmosphere at the different competitions.
