What exactly is the difference between a referendum, election & secret ballot?
A referendum, ballot question, or plebisciteis a direct vote in which an entire electorate is asked to either accept or reject a particular proposal. This may result in the adoption of a new constitution, a constitutional amendment, a law, the recall of an elected official or simply a specific government policy. The referendum or plebiscite is a form of direct democracy ideally favouring the majority. In the U.S. these are typically known as ballot or citizen initiatives when originated from the general population and referendums when legislative propositions are referred to the voting population. An election is a decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to hold formal office.
