What excersises will keep me in shape for surfing?
In the winter I do a lot of skiing and snowboarding so my surfing is limited to once a week…twice if I’m lucky. I’ve also have had quite a few injuries over the years that have kept me out of the water for months. The worst thing I’ve found to getting back in the water is my PADDLING POWER and ENDURANCE. Since I ski and snowboard my balance is usually not in question. Swimming helps but for me I found the MOST EFFECTIVE way to keep in shape for surfing is to paddle. If you have access to a pool you can attach your leash to the hand rails that you use to get out of the pool and just paddle your board in a stationary position in the pool. I do several sets of 50 strokes on each side. After doing this religiously every other day or so I found that when I did get back in the water I was actually in BETTER paddling shape than before the injuries.
