What figurative language is used in the song fireflies by owl city?
From what I’ve gathered, “Fireflies” is about not really taking in and appreciating the bigness of some of the things going on around you, because you’re too caught up in questioning what’s really important in life. You don’t realize what you’re missing and when you finally do realize that life is passing you by, you regret not taking it all in. At the same time, you question whether it’d be worth experiencing those things rather than deciding for yourself what’s REALLY important. I know that probably sounds complicated, but that’s how I interpreted the song. The song uses “fireflies” to refer to the big events in life. He “would just stand and stare” if they “lit up the world.” I hope this interpretation helps in some small way.
