What gets into lakes and creeks?
All kinds of things can wind up in lakes and creeks and some of these items can be harmful to humans and animals. Natural occurring salts and metals can dissolve and flow into creeks and lakes as the results of rainstorms or farming. Viruses and bacteria can come from a number of sources such as farms, wild life, and septic tanks. Pesticides (poisons used to control bugs) can also end up in creeks and lakes, as well as automobile products such as gasoline and oil from street runoff during rainstorms.
