Something called the Treaty of Versailles was signed, meaning that the army was limited to one hundred thousand at most. Conscription was banned, and so was the Air Force. They were only allowed six battleships, and a section of land between Germany and France called the Rhineland was demilitarized to act as a buffer between them to stop invasions. They lost about 10% of their land and 12% of their population (the people who had been living on said land.) Extremely strict reparations (basically compensation for the war) were enforced, with the Germans being ordered to pay six thousand, six hundred million every year (not joking.) If the reparations had not been cancelled due to Adolf Hitler’s influence, Germany would have had to continue paying until 1984 before all of the debt was finished.
