Former Holden Beach police officer Terri Oxford’s discrimination lawsuit against the town of Holden Beach is still awaiting trial. Oxford’s attorney James Hairston said he is trying to get a trial date set for July. “It’s still there,” he said of the suit that was filed in Brunswick County Superior Court in October 2008. The suit claims sexual harassment and discrimination by the current and former police chiefs. The complaint spans her time at the department from August 1999 until she was fired in April 2008. In her lawsuit, Oxford says she was treated unfairly by former police chief Jerry Wilson and current chief Wally Layne because she is a woman. Town attorney Mac Tyson has said he believes the lawsuit is just a ploy to garner media attention.
