What happens after fifth grade when students who have participated in the Magnet Programs go on to middle school and high school?
Students who have demonstrated the potential to succeed in secondary advanced level classes have the opportunity to take Merit classes at their home middle school. Merit classes are offered in all four core content areas: English/language arts, math, social studies, and science. As in the elementary Magnet program, Merit classes offer an advanced and accelerated curriculum. As students move on to high school, they may participate in the International Baccalaureate Program at North Hagerstown High School. They may also take Advanced Placement classes and pursue advanced studies in one of the high school career academies.
