What happens biologically with chemotherapy and radiation?

I can speak about radiation. Radiation for cancer treatment is designed to kill the cancerous tissue and do as little damage to the surrounding tissue as possible. I had radioactive seeds implanted in my prostate to kill the prostate cancer. It’s been 7 months and so far all is well. It can be a very useful technique in fighting cancer.
