What happens if a soldier is charged with simple battery under the act of family violence?

If he committed the crime on base, the civilian authorities have no jurisdiction. Simple battery could just result in company level punishment (article 15) and punishment would be handed out by his unit commander. This could be loss of one or two steps in rank, forfeiture of 1/2 months pay for 6 months, and confinement to barracks/quarters. If it’s higher than company level, or civilian charges are filed, it’s a whole new ball game. Either way it’s a serious ding to his caree that he’ll probobly have to work REAL hard to erase!
