We keep a folder in our room called the “Homework Diary” and when I check homework completion in the morning students sign in for any incomplete assignments. If students do not come with all of their homework completed, they will be asked to stay with the teacher or sit on a bench for 5 minutes of their recess time. Missing assignments should be brought in the following day, unless they are able to be completed during part of the school day. Notes from parents may be sent if there was a good reason that the students could not complete their work such as illness, family emergency or events the parents feel were beyond the student’s control. Students who take lessons, participate in sports, belong to clubs and other worthwhile regular activities should be encouraged to learn to plan ahead and not use these activities as excuses for incomplete or forgotten work.
