What happens if the tags PIC and NLIS database entry don match?
Where an animal’s NLIS device is read at a saleyard and the NLIS database record doesn’t match the travel documentation, e.g. it is registered against a different property identification code (PIC) to that on the waybill or NVD/waybill, then the database will automatically update its records to the PIC on the NVD/waybill. In cases where animals have moved and the database has not been updated by the buyer, the animal will have its lifetime traceability status removed. For cattle in the European Union Cattle Accreditation Scheme (EUCAS), the database cannot be automatically updated. If the two records differ then a roll-back will be necessary to correct the problem.
