Self-government agreements identify the specific subject matters over which Aboriginal groups may exercise jurisdiction. Broadly stated, these jurisdictions extend to matters that are internal to the Aboriginal group concerned, integral to its distinct Aboriginal culture and essential to its operation as a government or institution.
