What happens in Act 1 in the Romeo and Juliet play?
We the readers are introduced to the fued that the Capulets and Montagues are having when some people from each side meet in the street. They call each other some names and start fighting. The prince shows up and tells them that they are being ridiculous and that if they do it one more time, they will be punished. Towards the beginning of the act, Juliet, the nurse, and Lady Capulet are talking about how Juliet is getting close to the age when she should be married off. Lord Capulet is having a party that night. Paris, a man who wants to get married to Juliet, is going to be there. Juliet promised the nurse and her mother Lady Capulet that she would check him out at the party and see if she would like to get married to him. Meanwhile, Romeo is out with his buddies.
