What happens to a rose from the moment it is picked?

Most roses are picked 4-5 days before we get them. They are dry-packed and put in coolers. Before they arrive at our shop we have to disinfect everything. This means the walls, ceiling and floor of our cooler, as well as all of the containers that hold them. Roses and other flowers are very sensitive to bacteria so everything has to be very clean. As soon as they arrive they are cut and immediately put into a special hydrating solution for 1 hour. Then their guard petals are removed as well as all of the excess foliage and thorns, re-cut and put into another feeding solution. After 2-3 hours they are ready for the cooler and then sold. All of this work is hand done so that we can offer you the best quality possible. Under the right conditions, our roses last 8-10 days.
