A. Recycling is required at the Recycling-Solid Waste Collection Center. Depending on what is self-hauled, depends on whether the waste is required to be recycled or disposed. Users of this facility are required to separate recyclables and recycle the waste accepted for recycling. Recyclables accepted at this facility are hauled to local recyclers contracted with the City. Other waste material accepted for disposal is loaded into semi-trailers and hauled to Butterfield Landfill. Q. What is happening to the land now that the landfill is closed? A. Closing the landfill does not mean work at the landfill stops. EPA, State of Arizona, and Maricopa County regulations require the City to maintain the landfill for 30 years after closure.
