What happens to these cells in concentrated salt solution?
The water concentration of a concentrated salt solution is far less than inside either a plant of animal cell. Therefore, water will diffuse out of both of these cells, if they are put into this salt solution. However, the animal cell will shrivel up, whereas the plant cell will remain the same size, because of its rigid cell wall. But the cytoplasm of the plant cell will shrink – losing water – and will pull away from the inside of the cell wall.
