When photographers die, usually their estate is organized over a period of many months, sometimes years. Ultimately, the practice in most cases is to establish a trust or archive managed by reputable institutions (museums, libraries, universities, or families). If prints are made from the negatives after their death, they are carefully controlled and identified as such. The procedure is usually spelled out by the photographers' wills.
