What happens when the process is circumvented?
When the tissue donation process is ignored or circumvented by unscrupulous tissue banks such as Biomedical Tissue Services, which was recently shut down by the FDA, the suitability and quality of the donated tissue may be compromised through contamination, unsafe handling, cross-contamination or other factors. In addition, misrepresentations by tissue banks as to the donor’s real age, health status or date of death may render the tissue unsuitable for transplant.
