What Has Better MPG, Minivans, SUVS, or Sedans?
Sedans traditionally have better MPG when compared to minivans MPG ratings. Sedans generally have the best fuel economy because they couple smaller, lighter vehicle bodies with fuel efficient four- and six-cylinder engines. MPG-boosting hybrid technology is also most common with sedans. Minivans MPG rankings are second. Although minivans are large vehicles and almost always have V6 engines, most minivans MPG ratings are aided by the fact that vans are front-wheel drive, meaning that they do not have MPG-sapping all-wheel drive systems. SUVs get lower MPGs when compared with minivans MPG, as sport utilities are the most likely to have large engines, primitive transmissions and four-wheel drive systems.
