As long as you’ve been at your job for 1 year, and your paycheck is deducted into SDI each month (disability insurance) which most employers do, and the company has over 50 employees I’m pretty sure you will qualify for paid maternity leave. It works like this: SDI reimburses you up to 1/2 your normal salary for up to 6 weeks after the birth of your child. You can Google “Paid Family Leave” for more information about the laws in your state regarding maternity leave. Your only obligation is to give 30 days notice about the leave time in advance. Just tell your boss a month before you are due. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate or harass a pregnant employee. It cannot be grounds for your termination or for any demotion, or passups for promotion. You are entitled to the same benefits, hours, work conditions and workload you had before you became pregnant.
