It works like this: SDI reimburses you up to 1/2 your normal salary for up to 6 weeks after the birth of your child. You can Google “Paid Family Leave” for more information about the laws in your state regarding maternity leave. Your only obligation is to give 30 days notice about the leave time in advance. Just tell your boss a month before you are due. It is illegal for an employer to discriminate or harass a pregnant employee. It cannot be grounds for your termination or for any demotion, or passups for promotion. You are entitled to the same benefits, hours, work conditions and workload you had before you became pregnant.
