What if my child is a picky eater or allergic to certain types of foods, or has religious objections to certain foods?
It is required that parents notify us in writing about any special medical needs, including food allergies. Your child’s food allergy will be noted in the file, in the kitchen, and in the classroom. We will make every effort to accommodate special dietary needs with suitable substitutes. Picky eaters are encouraged to try new foods. We have found that many children who are picky at home are eager to please at school. We use positive reinforcement to encourage exploration of new foods! However, should a child truly refuse to eat, we will work with the family to make sure that no child is ever allowed to go hungry. During holidays and other special events, such as birthdays, parents are welcome to send in age appropriate treats and snacks. We also offer meat free diets, pork free diets, and vegetarian meals for those who have those needs.
