What impact has the Roman Empire had on society even today?
The previous is very agreeable, but….. 1) The roads, bridges, arches, and concrete are technological and in themselves should be viewed as such. It was Roman organization which brought them together to create the largest and most populous empire the world had yet seen, and the civilization which would survive it. 2) Pontious Pilate had already been reprimanded twice by the the Emperor Tiberius for going too tough on the Jews, and he did everything within his legal power to spare Jesus from cruxifiction. Pilate’s washing of his hands was a symbolism that he had done all that he could practically do, which translates as a failure of the Roman legal system (our system) and has since resulted in many miscarriages of justices (Sacco & Vanzetti in the 1920’s, et al).
