What impact will the Canada First Defence Strategy have on the current mission in Afghanistan?
A8. The Canada First Defence Strategy provides the Canadian Forces with a vision for future operations as well as a plan for consistent, committed long-term funding. The Canada First Defence Strategy will allow us to maintain a multi-role, combat capable military and ensures that the CF is prepared to respond to a wide range of situations in an unpredictable world. Although the Strategy was developed, in part, to ensure that the Forces have the capabilities to participate in future complex, full spectrum operations that will likely share many similarities with our current mission in Afghanistan, it was not specifically formulated to deliver capabilities for use in that ongoing operation. However, some elements of the Canada First Defence Strategy, such as strategic lift aircraft, will provide significant benefits to CF operations in Afghanistan.
