What in the brain causes a person to have a lazy eye?

0

If you think of vision as requiring hardware (eyes) and software (the ability to process images in your brain) lazy eye is a software problem. The reason it is called lazy eye is that everything about the eye is healthy but it still doesn’t work. We would call people in that same situation lazy. We now prefer the term amblyopia. Amblyopia is caused by one eye not being used during development. One reason this can happen is one eye is suppressed to prevent double vision when there is an eye turned in or out. Another reason that it can happen is if one eye can’t see very well due to some medical reason or because an eye requires a strong prescription to see. Amblyopia is usually treated by removing the factors that caused it and forcing the bad eye to be used by covering the good eye.
