Ultrasound is a technology that has been in use for more than 40 years. It uses sound waves that are translated by a computer into images. A probe is placed on the belly coated with a gel which decreases resistance to the reflected sound waves. 2D ultrasound represents these waves as an outline and is good for determining gender. 3D ultrasound gives depth to the image which makes it much easier for parents to understand. Three dimensions give you height, width and depth. The fourth dimension (4D) is time. At Look of Love you will see you baby in 3D as it moves around! 4D ultrasound is a 3-Dimensional imaged viewed in motion over time. (Time is the fourth dimension in this case). Some ultrasound equipment manufacturers use the term 4D ultrasound as a marketing term. 4D ultrasound is the same as our 3D 4D Live. What is the optimal time for a 3D 4D Ultrasound? We perform 3D 4D ultrasounds anytime from 12 weeks on as long as you have already had a clinical ultrasound. The earlier you come, the more of the baby you will see at one time, and the greater the baby's activity level. However, later in the pregnancy, the baby starts putting on fat and the facial features are best viewed at this time. If you plan on having only one 3D 4D ultrasound, we recommend coming at 26 weeks and up. For fuller-figured moms, 30 weeks and up may produce better results.  more

3D ultrasound shows a three-dimensional picture of your baby, and 4D gives the added dimension of time, allowing you to see your baby's movements. In other words, you will be watching a live-action video of your child in the womb. Unlike medical diagnostic 2D ultrasound, 3D/4D ultrasound allows you to see surface structures of your baby, giving a more realistic view. 3D/4D ultrasound is not used for diagnostic purposes. It is used to promote the bonding experience between mother, father and baby, and allow siblings and grandparents to share a sense of closeness with your baby.
