What Is a Celtic Trinity Knot?
Also known as a “triquetra,” the Celtic trinity knot is an ancient symbol. The knot is made up of a triangular shape with three distinct points. Because the trinity knot is made using one continuous line, it implies that the three points of the triangle are all inter-connected. This is a symbol of unity. The first known use of this triangle-shaped knot is on runestones and early Germanic coins, but this type of knot was really immortalized in the Book of Kells, an ornately illustrated religious text from about 800 AD. As time went on, the knot began to represent a trinity, or something that is three-fold.
