A chain saw sharpener is a machine that sharpens the individual teeth of your chainsaw. They come in a variety of styles from hand held manual files, attachments for a small drilling tool like a Dremel, to a self contained unit that attaches to a workbench. Your sharpening machine is comprised of two main components. One component holds on to the chain, and the other part sharpens it. These parts will differ depending on which model or type of chain saw sharpener you own. Some have small grinding bits and others have full grinding wheels. No matter which type of chainsaw sharpener you have you need to make sure you are sharpener the teeth of your saw on the correct angle. Not only that you need to make sure you file each tooth on the same exact angle with the same amount of pressure. It also needs to be the "right" amount of pressure. If you press too firmly with your file or at the wrong angle you saw will become dull very quickly and easily. You will notice you can only use it for ...  more

A chain saw sharpener keeps the cutting edge of a chainsaw's chain at its maximum sharpness. Sharpeners may be either electric or hand held. Whatever type of chain saw sharpener is used, the maintenance of a perfectly sharpened blade is absolutely crucial. Both the safety of the chain saw user and the quality of the cut wood depends on a perfectly sharpened chain that is filed at the correct angle. Although a chainsaw is powered by a high speed electric or gasoline motor, the saw's chain teeth bite into the wood and do all the work. The hard chrome plating on the chain's cutting teeth must be filed with a chain saw sharpener often. If not, the hard edge will become dull and the user will have to exert force on the chain saw to cut and the saw could potentially produce poor quality cuts. Forced exertion by the chain saw user can easily lead to faster fatigue. Research shows that many chainsaw accidents occur when users are tired. The exact moment a chain saw needs to be pushed to get ...  more

There are two basic parts to this sharpening machine, something that holds on to the chain, and the part that sharpens it. These parts will differ depending on which model or type of chain saw sharpener you own. Some have small grinding bits and others have full grinding wheels. There are variations of grinding wheels and they are proportionate to the size of the chain teeth on the chain of the chain saw. When the chain, which is held in place by a securing lever, is ready to be sharpened the grinding wheel is lowered using a lever. If you are using a dremel tip it will not be secured in such a way but a piece is provided to keep the angle you are sharpening correct. So basically on a little bit larger scale it is the same process you see any good chef go through ...  more
