In the case of a married couple, the institutionalized spouse is the spouse residing in the medical institution. The community spouse is the spouse residing in the community, or assisted living facility, who is not entering the nursing home.Will the community spouse (CS) be able to retain any of the institutionalized spouse’s (IS) income when the IS goes into the nursing homeYes, the CS is entitled to a minimum monthly income amount.
