What is a compostable bag? What is the difference between compostable and oxodegradable?
Polykar’s compostable bags, manufactured in partnership with BASF, will biodegrade in a composting facility within a period of 180 days, according to the ASTM-D6400 standards. They are made from Ecoflex®, a compostable polyester and cornstarch, and do not contain any polyethylene which is not compostable nor biodegradable. Polykar’s oxodegradable bags are made from polyethylene like regular garbage bags, but also contain an additive from EPI known as TDPA™. When exposed to heat, air, and stress, this additive will render these bags degradable within a period of 24 months. Please note, however, that heat, air, and stress are not present in a landfill, the ultimate destination of garbage bags in Canada.
