I’m by no means a scout, but I’d think 4.8 is a little slow for a FS. Most D-Linemen are running those speeds now, especially the ends. FS and CB’s need closing speed, specifically on running plays when you have a run off tackle so I’d say if you could go sub 4.6 you’d be in good position, but if you are looking for a role in a mid to high tier program in the college level I’d say shoot for 4.5 to 4.6 by doing resistance training. Also don’t forget that 40 times can be deceiving as well. I think at your age you should be ok though. Here is a list of the last combine average by position: Quarterbacks: Average Size — 6032, 222 pounds…..40 Times — 4.90 (hand timed average) — 4.87 (electronic Time) Tailbacks: 5104, 211…..40 Times 4.57 (HT) — 4.56 (ET) Wide Receivers: 6007, 203…..40 Times — 4.58 (HT) — 4.57 (ET) Tight Ends: 6045, 254 pounds…..40 Times: 4.8 (HT) — 4.78 (ET) Defensive Ends: 6032, 263 pounds…..40 Times: 4.89 (HT) — 4.88 (ET) Defensive Tackles: 6031, 303 poun
