i have a m44 carbine in 7.62x54r(mosin-nagant). energy range is in slightly behind a 30.06 in power.Winchester makes hunting rounds(180 soft-point) and also several Russian companies as well i use the Russian brown bear which is a fmj for fun i also use Russian silver bear also. i would go in detail about the gun and ammo but if you reference the yahoo answers question in regards to the mosin-nagant ammo most of all your answers would be resolved also if you do purchase one do not use military surplus ammo because it is corrosive and will rust your barrel if you don’t clean it after discharged. once you clean the rifle treat it as ever other modern rifle the Russians have it sighted with the bayonet out so if it shoots to the left extend the bayonet and it should resolve the problem most of the time.for more info and models ——————check out the website 7.62x54r.net.———–hope this helps. cost is in conjunction with condition of rifle any where between $100 to $400 but i
