What is a good DVD or hard drive camcorder comparable to Panasonic PV-GS320?
If you’re sold on all of the other features but not sold on the tape aspect, then yes, it’s still worth getting it, for a few reasons: Tape is still home to the highest-quality consumer media out there. MiniDV tape holds about 13 GB of DV. A full-size DVD holds about 4.7 GB, and it’s not the DV format: DVD and hard-drive camcorders use formats with higher compression than DV. They crush the files more to fit them in. Therefore, the file sizes are smaller, but some quality is sacrificed. And for hard drives, what happens when you fill up the drive? You either have to take time deleting media (not good) or take time to copy the media onto other media, such as DVD or tape. Not efficient. MiniDV tapes are small and cheap, so it’s not so bad if you have a lot of them lying around. I probably have about 40 of them now. MiniDV is also better if you like to edit with your computer. In short, it’s more widely compatible with editing software. DVD gets tricky. Furthermore, the different compress
