What is a good, traditional Bavarian restaurant in Munich, Germany?
What you have in mind is a ‘Gastwirtschaft’ that can be found easily at the different “Biergarten” all over town. An indication that a place is good and not touristy ist that there are large crowds but the menu is in German only. Normally, no reservation is required. Most of the Bavarian style downtown restaurants and even the famous Hofbräuhaus are not so bad or pricey at all because bavarian food is quite simple and basic. An alternative to Hofbräuhaus could be “Weißes Brauhaus” in Tal near Marienplatz. A little more upscale is “Aumeister” in the park “Englischer Garten”. Try also “Löwenbräukeller”, “Hofbräukeller” or “Augustinerkeller” or any of the Gastwirtschaften. If is called Restaurant is might be more expensive.
