choose one that describes itself as sweet, Sainsbury’s does its own brand cheapo sweet white wine (haven’t bought it for a while but it used to be about £3) that I really like, I use it to make risotto with and then drink whats left icy cold with my meal.

Go for a white zinfandel. I know it’s not really a white wine, but it is a good wine for starters and very easy to handle, almost like a wine cooler. From there I would say reach for a reisling.
