What is a Jade Plant?

The jade plant or Crassula ovata is a succulent which is often grown as an indoor plant in many regions of the world; it can also be successfully grown outdoors, as long as the climate is temperate to warm. You may also hear jade plants called friendship trees or money plants, and in some cultures people think that having a jade plant around the house is lucky. Many garden stores sell jade plants, and they are extremely easy to grow. Many people can recognize a jade plant, thanks to the very distinctive leaves, which are rounded and grow opposite each other. The leaves of a jade plant are also very thick and fleshy, typically dark green and sometimes with reddish edges. When a jade plant flowers, it produces small clusters of white to pink blooms. The jade plant is very similar to a cacti and it is a succulent and an excellent houseplant. The plants originality stems from China. Jade plants are well known to live long especially when they are looked after. They can grow into shrubs or trees ranging between 2 to 5 feet tall. They have juicy fleshy leaves which are round in shape with a dark green coloring and reddish tinge around the edging of their leaves. Matured jade plants will flower pink and white small flowers. The jade plant is referred to as a miniature tree quite commonly. Jade plants are tough and simple to grow plants. They generally like the indoors of homes but grow well in outdoor conditions.
