What is a LATA?

0

A LATA is a Local Access Transport Area. Colorado has two LATAs. The northern LATA is made up of the 303/720 and 970 area codes. The southern LATA includes the entire 719 area code. Calls within each of these two LATAs are intraLATA long-distance calls, often referred to as local long-distance or local toll calls. Calls between the two LATAs, for example from Denver to Colorado Springs, are inter-LATA long-distance calls.

A LATA (Local Access and Transport Area) is a geographical and administrative area that is the responsibility of an LEC (Local Exchange Carrier). Calls that cross LATA boundaries are handed off to an IXC (IntereXchange Carrier).
