In bedrooms, the bed may be the central feature of a design scheme. Larger beds, though, can dominate smaller rooms. Especially when a bed frame, box spring or foundation, and mattress are used, the effect can be overwhelming. In contemporary furniture design, this has been addressed with the low profile bed. The low profile bed usually refers to a bed frame and not the actual mattress. It can be of two different types. Some beds considered low profile are actually minimally designed. The frame may be extremely simple so as not to dominate a room. Another type of low profile bed is the bed frame that is low to the ground. A low profile bed is the absolute opposite of an ornate, massive canopy bed, which is very much high profile and the dominate piece in your bedroom. Low profile is the act of purposely avoiding prominence yet that doesn’t mean that a low profile bed can’t knock your socks off with its style, simplicity and beauty.

Low profile bed refers to the actual bed frame.  A low profile bed is minimal in design and the frame is simple. It will not overcome or swallow up the rest of your bedroom.

A low profile bed is contemporary in style and adds distinction and focus to your bedroom.

Low profile beds are often low to the ground, which works well in a room that is small because the higher a bed is the more room that it appears to take up. If you are striving for a spacious, uncluttered look, a low profile bed is your solution.

Some low profile beds are constructed out of metal frames.

Platform beds are generally low profile in structure.  When a low profile bed is a platform style you use one mattress. If you prefer a mattress and box springs this may not be the right style of bed for you.

Some low profile beds are totally free of head- or footboards.

Low profile beds use less vertical space, which is both good and bad. If you like storing stuff under your bed you may not be able to do this with a low profile bed.
