A motherboard is the underlying circuit board of a computer. The central processing unit (CPU), Random Access Memory (RAM), hard drive(s), disk drives and optical drives are all plugged into interfaces on the motherboard. A video interface and sound card can be optionally built-in or added. A motherboard can come in many configurations to fit different needs and budgets. At its most basic, it comes with several interfaces for necessary components and a BIOS chip set to control setup of the motherboard. Many computer enthusiasts favor one type of BIOS over another and will choose a motherboard partially based on the BIOS manufacturer. For example, many gamers prefer the Nvidia BIOS as it is rated as one of the best for graphics applications. An equally important feature of the motherboard is the type of CPU it will support. Some motherboards support AMD CPUs, while others support Intel processors. Within the manufacturer's categories, there are different grades of CPUs. An AMD 64-bit ...

The motherboard in any computer is the main circuit board inside the box. Whether you own a laptop or a desktop computer, the motherboard is essential to the function of the computer. The motherboard is a printed circuit board also known as a PCB. The PCB with all the components attached is the PCBA or PCB assembly. The typical components of a circuit board are present with capacitors, diodes and resistors. These components connect the electrical circuit within the board and each component has a specific function within the circuit. The capacitors store an electrical charge and can keep constant power present despite power surges and sudden drops in power. The diodes are silicon chips that allow current to only pass through the circuit in a single direction. The resistors do just what they sound like in providing a specified amount of resistance to the electrical current.

The motherboard is the heart of the computer. The board supports all of the components necessary for the computer to run, such as the microprocessor, video card, graphics card and onboard RAM. The motherboard is also integrated with the connectors for your keyboard and mouse, and provides the ports necessary for USB connections, parallel ports and serial ports. Motherboards come in a lot of different flavors, dependent on price. This is a feature you want to question when buying a new computer - is the motherboard expandable if I wish to add more RAM, or a higher end video card?

The mother bored is were your cpu, graphic card, fans, cable everything in your pc connects to it is the center hub.A motherboard is the central printed circuit board (PCB) in some complex electronic systems, such as modern personal computers. The motherboard is sometimes alternatively known as the mainboard, system board, or, on Apple computers, the logic board.[1] It is also sometimes casually shortened to mobo.

It's called a mainboard because motherboard was considered too sexist. This change occurred quite a few years ago and yet we still use the motherboard term. The mainboard is the circuit board where everything plugs in.

A motherboard is essentially a big circuit board. You attach all the components of your PC to it (CPU, RAM, Hard drive, graphics card, monitor, speakers, keyboard, etc.). Simply put, what it does is take inputs from input devices (keyboard, mouse, etc.) along tracks (you can think of tracks as wires embedded into the circuit board) to the CPU, which processes them, and then sends the data to output devices (again along the tracks) which display them to you... That's all.

The motherboard is the main circuit board inside your PC. Every components at some point communicates through the motherboard, either by directly plugging into it or by communicating through one of the motherboards ports. The motherboard is one big communication highway. Its purpose inside your PC is to provide a platform for all the other components and peripherals to talk to each other.

A motherboard is also known as a main board, system board and logic board. A common abbreviation is ‘mobo'. They can be found in a variety of electrical devices, ranging from a TV to a computer. Generally, they will be referred to as a motherboard or a main board when associated with a complex device such as a computer, which is what we shall look at. Put simply, it is the central circuit board of your computer. All other components and peripherals plug into it, and the job of the motherboard is to relay information between them all. Despite the fact that a better motherboard will not add to the speed of your PC, it is none-the-less important to have one that is both stable and reliable, as its role is vital. A motherboard houses the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), which is the simple software run by a computer when initially turned on. Other components attach directly to it, such as the memory, CPU (Central Processing Unit), graphics card, sound card, hard-drive, disk drives, ...
