Before no kill shelters came along there were a vast amount of animal shelters that would put a time limit on an animal’s life. A lot of these animals lives were put on a time limit because the animal shelters could not keep these animals and have room for the new animals that they getting through their doors. The shelters did this as a form of volume control and to be able to always have room for new cats and dogs. This left a lot of animals getting euthanized for unnecessary reasons like they were not adoptable, but instead because they were just another number in shelters list.

No kill animal shelters are shelters that do not euthanize animals based on the period of time that they have been at the shelter. The only reason that these shelters will euthanize or put an animal like a cat or dog to sleep is if the animal has some medical issues that the animal would be in a prolonged amount of pain if they were to stay alive or if they are an aggressive animal and would be hard to place in any home for an adoption. These shelters receive grant money from Maddie’s Fund a foundation that was made for the purpose of revolutionizing the statues and well being of companion animals. Maddie’s Fund states that only 16.8 cats and dogs were euthanized per 1,000 Americans were if you look at the numbers in the 1970s there were 115 cats and dogs being euthanized per 1,000 Americans that is quite a drop and continues to go down every year. This gives companion animals a chance to survive longer and in turn give them a better outlook for life.

Here is the website to Maddie’s Fund see how you can to improve the lives of companion pets and help no kill shelters.

Its a animal shelter that does not euthanize or put the animals to sleep. like some animal shelters put dogs and cats and others to sleep because they aren't adopted in a specific amount of time so they kill them. No kill animal shelters don't kill them no matter what, except maybe if they have a really bad injury or disease beyond help. If that's the case they may put them to sleep because it is better to have a quick death than a long and painful one.  more
