What is a non-adjuvanted vaccine?
A non-adjuvanted vaccine lacks an additive to boost or stimulate the immune response to the vaccine. The immune response to the vaccine will be slower than with an adjuvanted vaccine. More of the dead virus must be used in a non-adjuvanted vaccine to generate an immune response in comparison to an adjuvanted vaccine. For example, in the adjuvanted pH1N1 vaccine there is 3.75 µg of the antigen (dead virus) and 15 µg of the antigen in the non-adjuvanted pH1N1 vaccine.
