Many of the concepts and characteristics that people have mentally labelled as ‘nun’ in their minds aren’t actually nuns at all, but are something different. And many of the women of the world who are indeed nuns would never be recognised as such by a casual observer. For most people, the vast majority of ‘nuns’ they’ve ever seen – whether in real life, or on TV – were actually not nuns at all. They were instead what we call religious sisters.
