What is a Patient Navigator?
The Rush Cancer Resource Program is staffed by a patient navigator, a licensed clinical social worker who is an employee of the American Cancer Society. The patient navigator meets with patients and family members either by phone or in person to assess individual needs and provide the necessary support. The patient navigator’s responsibilities include the following: • Removing potential roadblocks so patients can receive the best cancer treatment possible • Providing information about support services and facilitate access to various programs designed to help families confronting cancer • Disseminating comprehensive information on different types of cancer and treatments, including brochures and videos The patient navigator can also help patients and families with the following: • Accessing services and resources at Rush • Accessing transportation to and from your cancer treatments • Learning more about clinical trials, which evaluate new and exciting treatments, many of which are avai
